vibing plant

I saw this video that completely and very well explains how to match any colour using five colours from a palette. In it the teacher explained why it might be better as an aspiring artist to start out with a limited palette as it teaches you a basic and foundational understanding of the colour wheel and how pigments work together. So eventually when using different secondary and tertiary colours from the tube the faster and more accurately you can mix colours without having to guess or balance different factors.

Anyways so here is a painting I did using that colour mixing technique as well using an alla prima technique that I hope to keep practicing. It turned out way better than I had expected and I hope to make it a habit to keep painting and learning. It places a huge importance on value more than anything, with a secondary priority on hue, (and of course making sure your shape is accurate or at least in proportion). It was an interesting take on realism through abstraction and brush stroke. I think next time I need to take the actual time to mix my values and colours more thoroughly and accurately without as much guessing I still did, I was very impatient to put paint on the paper which I think I still managed to do well decently. The details of the plant leaves and the dirt I didn't really manage to figure out, especially the dirt rip.

We'll see how my next ones turn out. I thought still lives were such boring subjects for painting but I think Ive caught a glimpse of the feeling of reward and interest one might have when doing a still life. This plant really just do be vibing.
