figure drawing 1
this week I committed at the very least 2 hours to figure drawing/study everyday and thought to continue this habit for a while. drawing has been the strength of most of the art ive done throughout elementary and high school but rarely was it ever because of conscious understanding or foundational skill. so this last week was a very humbling introduction to just sitting down to relearn a lot of what I thought I knew and take a step back to develop a better understanding than "I think I know what I am doing". I know it takes months to develop skills and years to master them, and as intimidating is that thought, its not really any bigger than committing to challenging myself where I am at today, and the next and the next.
here are some of the exercises I was learning this week. learning how to draw from my shoulder, a little bit of the gesture of the body, and how to deconstruct the body. i was learning how to express the underlying rhythm of gesture and fluidity of the body without the contour which is what i had always focused on. learning to do this challenged me to better know what the body was doing rather than just trying to recreate and guess where lines went to make it look a certain way. learning to construct the body from understanding a little more about what is happening underneath was also challenging, for example the boxes and ovals made me think about the tilt, the lean and the twist of the body i have always just guessed.
drawing is hard bro
