figure drawing 2
So this week was pretty relaxed. I didn't entirely spend my time on exercises and specific concepts but sort of played around with some gesture and contour sketches. I also tried to incorporate some more basic understanding of simple forms into constructing the model as well as trying to be a little more attentive to proportions. Also I spent a day reviewing how light and shadows work on a simple form and how it might apply to more complex secondary forms. I did make a completed drawing from a black and white picture and tried to present the values and forms patiently as I could but in the end screwed up the lay in so the torso was too long. I think I will be focusing a little more on the process of measuring and lay ins along side some of my quick sketches this week.
I listened to some podcasts on the process of drawing and learning to be artists the importance of patience and consistency. I can't seem to think what is more intimidating though, whether I want to seriously keep pursuing improvement or settling with a half-assed job and looking back in another 2 years wishing again I studied more. I think at this point I know I won't stop wanting to make art and being frustrated with not being able to make the art I want, and so I couldn't imagine that practicing is the wrong choice compared to doing nothing all day being stupid. I just need a better focused routine that I am continuing to develop.
Anyways, here are some random sketches of gesture and basic studies on shading and light. I think I might buy a bigger binded sketchpad so I can actually find some studies I find helpful or insightful.
